the missionaries sing as they raked and raked and raked and raked and raked aaaaaand...

Image
Did a service project in our bishop's faaapu/gigantic garden and that was a blast. We raked for like 3 hours nonstop while other missionaries cleaned and mowed and weeded and what not. And yes we sang EFY songs while doing so. At the end he gave us lemonade and starfruit and another fruit and coconut and durian which is NASTY!!!!! It tastes like death tried to make itself appealing by drenching itself in corn syrup. And also it doesn't leave your mouth. Ever. Also I did a split with soeur Lecacheur, a cute frenchie full of joy! We had a super powerful day and talked and laughed a ton! And then we went to a restaurant to buy food but the owner gave it to us for free awwwww. Side note: the people are so sweet here and give us SO much food! Today our neighbor calls for us and hands us a sack of mangoes and another sack of ramboutan, and a huge tin tray of bananas. And our RS president saw us at a dessert food truck and bought us crepes. Thank you for feeding us ALWAYS!!! ...

"then she cried..." "yay that's so good!"

Yeah that only happens when you're on a mission... like the scripture in Jacob 5 when Jacob thanks the Father because the people were so afraid they fell over or when Alma the elder rejoices because his son got "curb-stomped by an angel" we missionaries are also happy when people have trials not because we like sadness in other's lives but because that means God can work with them. But yes, this conversation did happen. Me explaining a lesson to my comp: "then after we sang the hymn she got really sad and started crying..." my comp: "yay that's so good congrats!" then we both took a moment to realize what just happened... #wearenotmonsters Anyway, we had tons of miracles this week! We had a lesson that took 3 and a half hours BUT at the end our amis FINALLY ACCEPTED TO GET BAPTIZED. Hallelujah!!!! God seriously worked miracles. We spent an hour that morning trying to plan that lesson and we had a list of things the Spirit told us to do o...

Still in Papeari WAHOO!!!!!!!!! I love it here and I'm staying with my new comp soeur Kehl from France. She's awesome. Soeur Ruiz finished her mission aggghhhhhhhhh I miss her already she is a GEM. So full of love and energy and courage... like a little ball of fire XD ugh a bientot ma soeur, ua here roa au ia oe. Anyway, what did we do this week?  We had a going away party for soeur Ruiz where we ate way too much as usual, and they played Tahitian songs for us. This whole week has just been a huge party for her. Kind of a legend. We had a lesson with a papi who has never accepted the lessons before but FINALLY let us come over. He was so sweet and kind!! We talked and he wants to change. The Lord does amazing things.  We have 5 new amis that we started teaching this week!!! They've just been coming out of nowhere but they all have such a desire to change and come unto Christ. It's amazing to see people accept Christ into their lives. Their l...

Pink Pineapple is back

Image
Happy 2020! What a beautifully symmetric year. Loved that I got to spend all 365 days of 2019 in tahiti! This week Heitiare and Tumata got married and baptized and it was wonderful! They were beautiful together and they were so happy. Afterward we had a huge dinner with Tahitian food (which is soooooo heavy holy cow). Their testimonies were so powerful, nothing but joy and gratitude for the choice they took to follow Christ. They were brought to tears saying "I know this church is true and that Christ is our Savior." I'm happy :) I spent a day with soeur Agustin, a filipino on a bike! I haven't ridden a bike in 8 months so that was a change. But she's such a cutie love her :) ALSO I found a PINK PINEAPPLE (12 yr old dream fulfilled) literally it was a pineapple... and it was pink... and I almost cried. And we had a good new year. I didn't hear the fireworks at midnight but my comp did. We ate waayyyy too many mussels and oysters for the 31st an...

2020 resolution: don't eat again for 2 weeks to keep from exploding

Image
Merry Christmas last week! We made a bajillion and a half sugar cookies and gave them to members and amis. It was fun to see everyone and spread the light of Christ of course :) We exchanged presents with all the sisters in the house Christmas eve and ate WAY too much chocolate and food. For Christmas eve and Christmas day, we ate oysters, mussels, another shellfish, the best lobster EVER, caviar, turkey, potatoes and breadfruit, ice cream, buche de noel, etc, etc,etc,.... and for dinner we had a fancy cheese, bread, meat bar thing. Soeur Ruiz picked the cheese because I'm cheese illiterate. Also there is sooooo much cheese here it's ridiculous. Anyway, last Monday we made poe banane with our ami and ate waaay too much. It's a dish made from cooked bananas and all the coconut milk. Sooooo good.  This week we didn't have a whole lot of lessons, but the Lord helped us see miracles. It's awesome to see people accept the gospel and find blessings in ...

Be one with the machine... not literally

Image
Soeur Ruiz and I spent the week making our own dresses WITH A MACHINE this time! (Faking it seamstress PART 2!) and I might have sewed my finger. And since I'm super chill and calm with needles, I almost passed out while my lovely sisters Ruiz, Lunt and Agustin were trying to un-jam the machine to raise the needle to get my finger unstuck. That was a fun night.  BUT we did finish our dresses the MORNING OF our missionary Christmas party (aka soeur Ruiz finished my dress because the night before she was playing surgeon and she's an angel). And I gotta say they aren't bad. And the Christmas party was awesome! We made little sketches that were super cheesy and missionary appropriate (which makes them insanely awkward) and... yeah fun. But it was good to see all the missionaries!   Another story of someone passing out! Our ami Adeline was sick but decided to go work in the garden with her family and while they were taking a break when we got ther...

Just a sink full of chicken

Image
Yes you read that correctly... A member in a soeur Lunt's old ward wanted to thank her by giving her food so he bought a 2.5x1x.5 ft box of frozen chicken legs. So what did we do? Spent an hour dethawing all the chicken legs in the sink to separate and give to others. Obviously.  Anyway, Tepiu FINALLY got baptized!!!!!!!!! She is sooooo dang strong and has so much faith! Her parents were against her and kind of disowned her, her husband and kids "supported" her but no one came to her baptism. But she came and was filled with the spirit and says she regrets nothing and is happy. What a miracle. This week we went caroling with the other missionaries in our zone and it was a party. Invites the Spirit into their lives.  We also had a present exchange and I drew elder Tehaamoana (goofy Tahitian elder) so I bought A Santa tie and I put a 6 in poisonous centipede (THAT I KILLED AND ALMOST DIED MYSELF) in a truffle box and gave it to him. When he opened it he thre...
